UPDATE January 24, 2016: If you want to go and couldn't nab a spot the first time, there are a couple of spots open! Sign up today!
Note: Highly recommend that participants have prior ice climbing experience and/or partners or obtain a guide for the weekend.
Daks Big Haus 2016
Come join us for the club’s annual trip of alpine fun and ice climbing in the Adirondacks (aka Daks). Every year, we rent a large house in the greater Keene/Keene Valley/Lake Placid area and enjoy some beautiful frozen waterfalls and amazing snow covered mountains. This year we had to make a few changes (last year’s rental is up for sale and unavailable at this time) and opted for a larger house in Lake Placid that offers more beds and easier access to restaurants and bars.
This is a club event. However, there will be no club infrastructure for new ice climbers. Do not register for the event expecting others to teach you to ice climb, set up ropes, etc. If you are a new or inexperienced climber, please arrange a partner or obtain a guide ahead of time. We will circulate a Google spreadsheet and all registrants must provide their partner’s name. We will contact anyone who has not completed this portion of the Google spread by late fall. Do not register expecting to show up and find a partner when you get there.
Finally, we are all adults. It’s expected that participants will be respectful of each other, clean up their mess, and help clean the house before everyone departs.

House details: This is a new house for us, but it looks huge and comes with a fully equipped kitchen and 2 1/2 bathrooms. There’s also apparently a hot tub. I’m sure that’s a note of caution or a note of delight depending on which member you ask.
We will likely not have to deal with any steep driveway issues this year, but it’s still winter in the Adirondacks. It’s a safer bet to have a 4-wheel drive vehicles (with good tires). We can get 5 cars in the garage and driveway; please carpool. Exact location will be provided to participants only closer to the time of the event.
Cell phone coverage: Service is limited in the Adirondacks. However, there is AT&T and Verizon service in Lake Placid. So, unlike past years, I assume we will have service at the house.
Club will provide coffee, coffee filters, and sugar. Please bring a snack to share (chips/dip/brownies, etc). On Saturday night, we’ll have a pot luck. You should be able to walk to restaurants in Lake Placid and you will be a short drive to Keene and Keene Valley.
