OPEN TO ALL CLUB MEMBERS

Come join us for some balmy summer camping and climbing at the Gunks, one of the best places anywhere for beautiful, moderate trad climbing.  Plenty of options for all ability levels of trad.

WHEN:

Friday, July 15 - Monday, July 18 (if you can take the time off!)

WHERE:

The Shawangunks (the Gunks), New Paltz, NY.  ~6 hour drive from the DC area.

CLIMBING FEE:

The Gunks is a FEE AREA managed by the Mohonk Preserve. The fee is $17/day or $95 for an annual membership (this equates to 6+ days at the Gunks in a year to make the membership worth it).  AAC members enjoy a discounted rate on day passes, so bring your membership card if you have one.

LODGING:

The AAC campground is the closest to the Gunks.  There is no group campsite option here, so you are on your own to arrange a reservation:  https://lodging.americanalpineclub.org/facilities/4/reservations/new

($24/night for a campsite of up to 4 people for AAC members; $38/night for non-members).  Alternate lodging options include Creekview Campground (~25 min away, www.creekviewcampsite.com) or the hostel/motels in/near downtown New Paltz.

CLUB DINNER:

We'll do a Saturday evening dinner at a local place in New Paltz.  The Club will cover a portion of the total bill to provide a benefit for members (must be members in good standing that are registered for this event).  Guests are welcome to attend but must be noted in the registration spreadsheet and pay their checks separately.

GENERAL COORDINATION:

You are responsible for securing your own climbing partner for the weekend.  The Listserv is a great place to post that you are looking for a partner if you don't already have one.  We can also help coordinate partners and carpools via the spreadsheet you'll receive after you register.

Please note that this is NOT an instructional event.  If you are new to trad climbing, please wait for a different Club event that provides instruction on following or secure a guide/experienced leader that is willing to teach/take you up.
