Join us for 2-3 days of climbing at our home away from home, Seneca Rocks in West Virginia!

On Saturday morning, we will attempt to get an up-to-date group photo on the South Summit of Seneca!

WHEN: 18 AUG - 20 AUG

WHERE: Seneca Rocks, WV

LODGING:

The Club will cover camping at Seneca Shadows, a National Forest campground. We will have a group camp site reserved for Friday and Saturday nights. The campsites have water, bathrooms, and showers. There is one restaurant in walking distance of the campsite, and other options a further drive out.

WHAT:

2 days of climbing, depending on when you arrive at Seneca.

We are aiming to get a group photo at the summit (a la the Meet-up banner) Saturday morning. Please use the spreadsheet to coordinate partners, carpooling, and camping.

AREA DETAILS:

Seneca Rocks is about a 3-3.5 hours drive from DC. Home of many moderate multi-pitch trad routes. There are some limited top rope and single pitch climbs, but note that these are more limited. The South Summit is accessible only through technical climbing techniques, although there is a route up that reaches the summit at a grade of 5.2

There are also a number of sport/trad climbing areas within a reasonable drive, such as Reed's Creek and Franklin in the Smoke Hole Canyon area.

The third edition of the Seneca Rocks guidebook is available at the local climbing shop, the Gendarme. However, the guidebook was printed with a number of errors, namely mismatches between the photos and text. The guidebook is sold with a printed errata page, but please use caution if you are new to Seneca, and consider using another guidebook as a cross reference.

There are also two local guiding schools for those that wish to hire guides.
