PATC-MS is organizing an extended weekend climbing trip to Linville Gorge in northwestern North Carolina on September 24-26, 2021.

Linville Gorge (aka, the Grand Canyon of the east coast) offers a multitude of climbs. The two must popular areas for trad are Table rock and the Amphitheatre. Table Rock is a great place for new trad leaders to hone their skills.  

This is not an instructional clinic/event.  Please arrange for a partner prior to the weekend – do not expect that others will take you in their party if you just show up.

 

Camping:  Camping is available near the parking lot of Table Rock but this is a remote camping area. There are pit toilets available but no running water and you have to bring everything else yourself. The closest store is a 25 minute drive. The camping area is first come/first serve. The remoteness of Linville Gorge adds to the adventure so don’t let that deter you. There are camping areas and hotels at the bottom of the mountain.

The Club will have an area to act as a base camp, but you can camp wherever you choose.  There are beautiful campsites with great views if you are willing to walk on the trail a bit.

 

Transportation, etc:  It’s approximately 7 hours from the Washington, DC area. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation, climbing partner(s), camping/climbing gear, and food (other than the club dinner).  Parking will be limited at the campsite, so please plan to carpool. 

 

Miscellaneous

Cancellation Policy: If you can no longer make the event, please change your registration as soon as possible. This allows people on the wait list to join. If you fail to show for an event and do not cancel within 48 hours, you will be considered a no show. Club members who have 3 or more no shows will not be able to register for future events for a period of one year whether it’s due to failure to cancel or the person does not show up for the event at all.

PATC-MS Member Only policy: This event is for members of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club-Mountaineering Section only, in good standing with liability waivers on file, unless otherwise stated.

This event will be strictly enforced by event leaders. Any person who shows up to an event that is not a member will not be able to participate in the event.
