Wolf Rock Top Roping Trip
September 17 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pmFree
Join PATC-MS for a day of climbing at Wolf Rock. Wolf Rock is a quartzite crag sliced by fissure caves within Catoctin Mountain National Park in Thurmont, Maryland. It previously required a permit to climb (no longer the case), so it’s a lesser used crag. It is known for being slabby with large vertical cracks. A majority of the climbs range between 5.3-5.7, while still having a few more difficult climbs ranging from 5.8-5.12. This is a perfect crag for climbers new to the outdoors, or those looking to increase confidence outdoors. This event will be limited to PATC-MS members and capped at 14 climbers. It is open to all levels, but you need to know how to belay.
The club will meet at 8am in Catoctin Mountain National Park at the Park Central Parking Lot, just outside of Thurmont, Maryland. The parking lot is displayed wrong on most navigation software if you just search for it. Please use the link and gps coordinates noted above to get to the lot. If you are late, please let the trip leader know.
Please bring a harness, helmet, and belay device. The approach to the crag is 1 mile and is all uphill, with roughly 600’ of elevation gain, so bring lots of water. Will plan on staying until 3pm so make sure you pack some snacks, and/or a lunch.
Please cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend – this event will fill up quickly so let someone else have your spot if you can’t make it. If you no show once, you will get an email from the Chair. If you no show twice, you will not be allowed to sign up for another event for 3 months. If you continue to no show, your membership will be cancelled and refunded. If you can’t make it the morning of the event, at least give the trip leader a courtesy call so that no one is waiting for you in the parking lot.
To cancel your reservation, go back to the event page scroll down to the RSVP portion. Click the red “view your RSVP” text and it will take you to another page where you can change your RSVP from “going” to “not going”. If you cancel your RSVP the day before the trip or the morning of, please text the trip leader and let them know. The website does not notify trip leaders when someone changes their RSVP. Failure to notify the trip leader after cancelling your RSVP last minute will count as a no-show.
Please note that this is not a guided event and none of our trip leaders are professional guides. You will be climbing on ropes set up by members of the club who are hobby climbers and not professionals. Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for yourself and your own safety at all times.
