Jeanette Helfrich Women’s Leadership Grant


Purpose

Our club has a long history of women leaders starting with Jan Conn. The purpose of this grant is to continue to develop women leaders to lead trips, to mentor other climbers, and to provide a welcoming space for new women climbers. Women teaching other women has been proven to be extremely effective, and PATC-MS wants to encourage this to continue.


Grant amount: $600

Number of grants awarded: Maximum of two per year

Grant application period: ***For 2021 only: application period is February 1-28***  Recipients are chosen in March. 

Eligible Classes: Lead climbing, rock or ice, self-rescue.

Recipient responsibilities: Lead one club trip or clinic, OR participate in supporting two trips or clinics

  • Examples include (but are not limited to):
    • New Followers Weekend, New Leaders Day, Gym-to-Crag Sport Leading Transition, New Climbers Day
    • Club trips to Seneca, The Gunks, The New River Gorge, Buzzards Rock, Safe Harbor, Reeds Creek

Requirements

  • One year of club membership
  • Two years of outdoor climbing experience
  • Can top rope 5.7 comfortably
  • Has lead at least five trad routes of any difficulty
  • Safe rappelling skills
