Trip Details
Join PATC-MS for a weekend of sport climbing at Smoke Hole Canyon!
This is a PATC-MS members only trip. This is not an instructional clinic/event, and participants are expected to be familiar with lead/sport climbing and how to set / clean anchors.
In addition to any camping and food/water supplies for the weekend, climbers should bring their own personal gear (harness, helmet, shoes, chalk bag, and belay device), 8-10 quick draws, stick clip, and a 60-70m rope.

Cancellations
To cancel, contact the trip organizer or webmaster at pactms.org
Please cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend so someone can have your spot. If you no show once, you will get an email from the Chair. If you no show twice, you will not be allowed to sign up for another event for 3 months. If you continue to no show, your membership will be cancelled and refunded.
If you can’t make it the morning of the event, at least give the trip leader a courtesy call so that no one is waiting for you in the parking lot.
Please note that this is not a guided event and none of our trip leaders are professional guides. You will be climbing on ropes set up by members of the club who are hobby climbers and not professionals. We do not vet or test any of our members’ belaying skills; only climb with people you trust. Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for yourself and your own safety at all times.

Description:
The Smokehole Canyon is in West Virginia, a few miles from Seneca Rocks. The canyon contains a number of limestone sport climbing areas, mostly located towards the north end of the canyon. Parking is extremely limited and the climbing is described in this Rakkup Guide. There are also routes on the Entrance Walls near the start of the Canyon – this Rakkup Guide. Limited information is listed on Mountainproject. There are around 200 routes on a number of different cliffs, and several commercial campgrounds nearby.
The Smokehole Canyon is close to Reeds Creek, another limestone sport climbing area, and can be accessed from Highway 220 (south end) and Highway 28 (north end)
