The Volunteers: Mountain Rescue Brings Us Home

Two mountain rescue organizations—one near Seattle, Washington, the other in Tyrol, Austria—are linked by a surprising connection. Take a journey with historian Mark S. Weiner from America to Austria and back again as he considers the origins and meaning of their work. Both groups have grown from a strong sense of place … because before you can save a stranger, you first must love your home.

This is a special screening at the Arlington Drafthouse on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 6 PM, arranged by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club Mountaineering Section (PATC-MS) and the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group (SMRG).

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 (cash) at the door—secure yours early to save your spot!

As this is a joint event with the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, reservation will not be through the website but will be through a google sign up here.

If you register, but do not pay through PayPal or Venmo. you’ll get one reminder before being removed from the early registrations.  At the theatre, we’ll have a list of early registrations – anyone not on this list will need to pay $20 – cash please.

Film Screening

Drinks and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Doors will open at 6pm with the screening to start at 6.45pm. There will be a raffle and also a Q&A with David Ritsher, who along with Mark Weiner were the producers for this film.
