Upcoming Mountaineering Conditioning Introduction to Backpacking Weekend

Are you intrested in mountaineering or backpacking but don’t know where to start? M-Con is running a beginner’s backpacking trip! Registration opens Sunday October 7th at 8:00am. Kathleen Krupenevich and Leila Desotelle will lead a introduction to backpacking trip the weekend of November 22-24th in George Washington National Park. This will be up to 10 miles over two days, with some elevation gain.  To reduce environmental impacts, the backpacking group will be limited to 10, so registration will be limited to 8 people with 2 group leaders. Participants should have experience hiking with some weight in a pack. Participants need no previous backpacking experience though some car camping experience would be helpful. Participants should be self-sufficient and prepared to carry full pack weight with all the backpacking essentials (tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, cooking equipment, clothes, food, water purification, SNACKS, etc.) Trip leaders will provide a gear list. The club will provide tents, but you are responsible for your own equipment. Trip leaders will assist you in finding equipment. Car pooling is encouraged and tent sharing is mandatory to limit the trail impact. Hammocks and bivys are also doable. Open to the entire PATC-MS club (not just M-Con participants). Email Kathleen Krupenevich at [email protected].
