Upcoming New Ice Climbers Weekend January 22-24, 2027

This mentoring event is for those who have wondered what it’s like to climb a column or wall of ice.  Now you’ll find out.

This is an opportunity to learn basic ice climbing technique, so have outdoor rock climbing and belay experience. You don’t need prior ice climbing experience.

You’ll spend two days in the Adirondacks, on top rope, learning ice climbing techniques, how to walk in crampons without ripping up your pants, and more.

You are responsible for having suitable clothing – there will be a list – and borrowing/renting ice tools, boots and crampons.  You’ll also need to sort out transportation and lodging, which will be at the ADK Inn. Reserve your spot at the ADK Inn – that expense is yours, but the rooms have two beds, so sharing is encouraged.

If your application is accepted, there will be a carpooling/room sharing doc to make your arrangements easier.

You can borrow ice tools, crampons, and boots from the club gear locker, so make sure you reserve these quickly.  There are 12 slots only. Please make sure you can handle the clothing, gear, transportation and cost of travel before you sign up.  And if something happens that you cannot participate, please let us know immediately.  There will be a waitlist.
