We are excited for our upcoming birthday party/picnic November 9th, 3 – 6pm at the Carderock Pavilion. The club will be providing food and drinks.
Activities include Carderock climbing beforehand (weather permitting), a photo contest, a raffle, quick talks about club trips over the last year and even some (brief) club business.
We will be offering a photo contest as in previous years.
Please submit your pictures by emailing them to andypbernat at gmail.com by midnight October 28th. These pictures must have been taken in the period November 23rd 2023 – October 28th 2024. The categories are: alpinism, rock climbing, ice climbing, foreign locations and PATC-MS (the photo must display our logo in some fashion).
We will print your pictures for you. You will get the print and rights will stay with the photographer (we will keep rights to post in the newsletter). Winners will be chosen by popular vote and will receive gift cards.

Carderock Recreation Area is on the Potomac River just outside the 495 Beltway. Carderock is part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and is well known for top rope climbing and hiking. The Potomac Mountain Club has published a guidebook to Carderock.
To access the climbing at Carderock, park in the north most parking lot and follow the trail westwards past the toilet that leads down to the base of the cliffs. The climbing is only several hundred yards from the parking lot.
Note that cars have been broken into in this parking lot so do not leave valuables in your car.
