Sold Out Wolf Rock Top Roping Trip

Join PATC-MS for a day of climbing at Wolf Rock. Wolf Rock is a quartzite crag sliced by fissure caves in Catoctin Mountain National Park,  near Thurmont, Maryland.

Wolf Rock previously required a permit to climb (no longer the case), so it’s a lesser used crag. It is known for being slabby with large vertical cracks. The majority of the climbs are between 5.3-5.7, with a few more difficult climbs ranging from 5.8-5.10b. This is a perfect crag for climbers new to the outdoors, or those looking to increase confidence outdoors.

This event will be limited to PATC-MS members and capped at 14 climbers. It is open to all levels, but you need to know how to belay.

The club will meet at 8am in Catoctin Mountain National Park at the Park Central Parking Lot, just outside of Thurmont, Maryland. The parking lot is displayed incorrectly on most navigation software if you just search for it. Please use the link and gps coordinates noted above to get to the lot. If you are late, please let the trip leader know.

Please bring a harness, helmet, and belay device. The approach to the crag is 1 mile and is all uphill, with roughly 600’ of elevation gain, so bring lots of water. Plan on staying until 3pm so make sure you pack some snacks, and/or lunch.

Please cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend  so someone can have your spot. If you no show once, you will get an email from the Chair. If you no show twice, you will not be allowed to sign up for another event for 3 months. If you continue to no show, your membership will be cancelled and refunded.

If you can’t make it the morning of the event, at least give the trip leader a courtesy call so that no one is waiting for you in the parking lot.

Because this listing has been created manually in our new events system, it cannot be cancelled automatically through the website.  If you need to cancel please tell the Trip Leader Roy Gabriel [email protected] and email the Webmaster at [email protected]

Please note that this is not a guided event and none of our trip leaders are professional guides. You will be climbing on ropes set up by members of the club who are hobby climbers and not professionals. Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for yourself and your own safety at all times.
