Upcoming Red River Gorge Nov 7-11

**This event is for climbers that know how to lead, belay, and clean for either sport or trad.**

**Please note that you will need to fill out a separate Google Form application in order to be considered for the trip which you can fill out here: https://forms.gle/1upUgSR5iQdjk1qu9 . After you fill out the form, we’ll review your submissions, approve registrants, and send out more information.**

With thousands of sport routes and hundreds of trad routes, the Red River Gorge is one of the best climbing areas in the eastern US! Whether you’re seeking 5.fun leading, or want to project on steep overhanging routes, this place has a lot to offer and then some.

If you’re unfamiliar with the area, you can find out more information via Mountain Project, and there are available guidebooks as well. Please note that for some areas there are different rules and sign-ups/waivers that might be required. After registrants are approved, we will coordinate as a group to gauge interest in these areas (many of which are worth visiting). A few (but not all) of these areas are listed below:

We will plan to camp at the Land of the Arches Campground, which caters to the climbing community specifically. More information on the campsite, pricing, amenities, rules, etc. can be found on their website. The general plan is to carpool on Friday, climb on Saturday and Sunday, then depart on Tuesday, but anyone is welcome to arrive earlier/stay later. After registrants are approved, we will send out a form where you can list the gear you plan to bring, and a form for carpooling.

If you have questions about the trip, please contact Nicole Guilfoyle at [email protected].

Please cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend  so that someone else can have your spot. If you do not contact the trip organizer, this counts as a no-show. If you no show once, you will get an email from the Chair. If you do not show up twice, you will not be allowed to sign up for another event for 3 months. If you continue to not show up, your membership will be cancelled and refunded.

If you can’t make it the morning of the event, at least give one of the trip leaders a courtesy message so that we are not waiting on you, and can try and give your spot to someone on the waitlist.

Please note that this is not a guided event and none of our trip leaders are professional guides. You will be climbing on ropes set up by members of the club who are hobby climbers and not professionals. Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for yourself and your own safety at all times.

Description:

The Red River Gorge is one of the biggest climbing meccas in the eastern US, with thousands of climbing routes that will provide ample fun for both newer leaders and experienced crushers alike. Most of the climbing in the Gorge is sport, but there are over 800 trad routes as well. Please take note that ownership of RRG land is managed by multiple entities, and some of these require waivers, and adherence to different rules/ethics that may not be the same across the board. It would be a good idea for those new to the area to look through the Mountain Project page for a comprehensive list of land management entities, ethics, stewardship orgs, official guidebooks, classic climbs etc. While MP can be a good starting point, various guidebooks, RRGCC, Muir Valley, and other resources will have even more comprehensive information.
